ABOUT / BACKGROUND
Vailakis & Associates Architects was founded in 1969 in Heraklion, Crete, in Greece by the architect Haris Vailakis. Since its founding, the practice has been systematically dealing with the design, planing and construction of public and private building projects such as residences, hotels, office buildings, health centers, urban planning and design, building restoration, interior design and landscape design.
At times the practice has collaborated with offices from Athens and abroad.
Vailakis & Associates has won various competitions.
In 1984 the Practice received a Design Award from the Ministry of Public Works for a residence built in Municipality of Hersonisos
Since 1986 the practice has fully incorporated CAD technology on its way to investing heavily in new technologies to deliver the best result.
In 2002 Architect Nickolas Vailakis joined the team.
In 2006 projects from the practice’s work were included in the Greek national participation in the 10th Venice Bienalle "The dispressed urbanity of the Aegean archipelago"
In 2008 the practice participated in the 4th Architectural Triennale exhibition hosted at the Mediteranian Centre of Architecture in the city of Chania.
In 2008-09 the practice was part of the winning team of a competition held by the Heraklion Port Organisation regarding the design and construction of commercial, office and passenger buildings at the port of Heraklion.
In 2013 the practice participated in the 5th Architectural Triennale exhibition hosted at the Mediteranian Centre of Architecture in the city of Chania, titled: "Architecture in Crete”.
